The emphasis on community, environmental education, and integrated STEAM curriculum is wonderful! Students get to spend a lot of the time outdoors and in nearby Forest Hill Park. Parental involvement requirement (24 hours) really helps ensure committed families.

Because this is a volunteer oriented school, there is always garden day or something extracurricular to do with the school. There is not a ton of after school activities but this is elementary. PTA often provides extracurricular activities. My son is also involved in a teacher run STEAM class dealing with legos and technology.
I have found that you can be as involved as you want to be. Because it has a unique circumstance of requiring 24 hours of volunteer services from parents, I find that the parents are very involved. The school also has a garden and conducts classes outside when possible.
