I love that PCA focuses on the whole child. Academics are very important there, but they realize that there is so much more to a student than just how "smart" they are. They show this by focusing on character and community every day through Crew. They also show it by how they reward honors such as Val/Sal, Senior Superlatives, and Junior Marshals. The look at GPA, Dual Enrollment (college classes taken), school involvement (through extra-curriculars), community service, and showing the PCA Way. Students are valued at PCA for so much more than just a "score". That is why I love PCA!

PCA lacks proper communication skills. Details are not relayed in a timely or proper manner as they should be. Most times I become aware of things through the grape vine. There were a few scholarship opportunities that only the teachers favorites were aware about and everyone was qualified for. I feel as if I was slightly hindered by attending this school. I was not as prepared for college as I should have been. Scholarships and other options of paying for college were not discussed. My mother pushed for me to buckle down on preparing for college. Our advisor did not fully discuss higher education until December. Many issues are not handled fairly in my opinion. Many select students are hand picked and chosen first for tons of opportunities. I thought academics were first and foremost until Valedictorian, salutatorian and runner ups were announced. Students with lower gpas were chosen above extremely qualified students only because of extracurricular activities.
Pataula Charter Academy is the best option in the surrounding counties to send your child to school. I attended Miller County up until my eighth grade year; there was excessive bullying, along teachers and administration who don't care about the students' well being. Sending me to this school was the best decision my parents have ever made. Yes, our grading system is unique, but it puts us at a higher educational standard than regular county schools-- teachers don't let your child move on from the subject unless they fully understand it. On average, there are about 40 kids in each grade, and a lot of students have the same GPA. To decide honorary titles, there is no other option than to rank up school and community involvement--which is very important to this school in the first place. I highly recommend this school to parents who have had problems with previous schools and their child's education.
