It's a nice school! Faculty is passionate about what they do, the school is clean (exempting the female restrooms), and there is a wide variety of classes. It's easy to enroll into AP and honors classes, and there is a lot of preparation for college.
The food is less than ideal. Although it's a given that a public high school has poor food, this school takes it to another level- I can count on more than both hands how many times my food has been under cooked/raw. I've known students who have gotten sick from eating here. There's also a lack of options. You're better off bringing your own food!
There's also the issue of reoccurring racist incidents. They have been happening every year for the past few years, and got recognition in 2021 when someone wrote racist messages on a wall in the boy's restroom. This incident was even put into the news.
Overall, this is a good school, in a good area.

Overall, this is a good school, in a good area.
For context, I graduated from Parkway Central High in 2023, and attended from fall 2019 to spring 2023. As a mid sized public school, academics, sports, and other activities were fairly competitive, and most students were defined by extracurriculars. I loved having options in high quality extracurriculars, and the teachers were supportive of busy schedules. During covid, a lot of that stopped, but they were always trying to balance safety with the highest quality education they could manage. I will say that there were racial scandals two or three of my four years here, and little was done about it. As a fairly left leaning school, there are gender neutral bathrooms and it is common to be openly LGBTQ+. Lastly, I graduated amidst a storm of controversy that the administration was doing away with teachers' planning periods, which would greatly affect the quality of our education, especially AP and honors courses, in addition to potentially doing away with extracurriculars.
Parkway central high school has a great environment filled with students who love to get involved. I especially enjoyed being a part of the marching band program, in which I was fully supported by amazing teachers. All of my teachers in honors and Ap programs, in addition to the band program, were passionate and did everything to ensure that students would succeed and have a rewarding experience. I would like to see in the future that teachers get their full planning period time. We were told that the planning period for teachers would decrease in this coming year, and I feel that this would be detrimental to education at parkway central and all parkway schools.
