We are a non-profit, independent, co-educational day school located on Hawai'i Island in the small rural ranching town of Kamuela.

I am going into my fourth year at Parker (senior) this year, and Parker has been a great place to attend. The teachers have been able to culture and foster my curiosity for learning to help me achieve goals I had not imagined before attending Parker. That all being said, I have found that my success at the school can primarily be attributed to my motivation to do so. The school could do a better job engaging and motivating students who aren’t the typical straight-A or near-A students. To be clear, that isn’t the teachers' fault at all, and they are all stellar (they love to teach and are highly knowledgeable). I think the issue comes from the administration, which could better create a curios learning environment for students through activities outside the classroom. Overall, Parker is an excellent academically focused school, and if you want to find academic rigor and challenge, you can do that here; you just have to be thoughtful about what you take (Honors and AP classes available).

Review Parker School

I have been going to Parker School since ninth grade (now a senior). I would argue that the best part about the school is the teachers--I have been taught by so many amazing teachers who care deeply about their students. Class sizes are also quite small (under 20 usually), so you have countless opportunities for one-on-one help. The campus is also quite nice. Something I would like to see change is the new grading policy--implemented rather recently, it has rendered doing homework for credit pointless because it does not count towards one's grades anymore (large lack of motivation amongst students now), yet our grades show an 'I' for 'incomplete' if we skip assignments.

Despite its small student population, Parker School offers a top-end college preparatory education to students K-12. The teachers at Parker are extremely considerate and knowledgeable, and go out of their way to adapt to the learning needs of each individual student. The school community is also vibrant, with clubs, sports and student-run organizations such as journalism connecting students, teachers, parents, and alumni. The location of Parker School is also superb, with rolling hills surrounding and the campus being just 20 minutes from the beach.
