I moved here from a small town so the amount of students was mindblowing. The school was built with a lot of outside access which in Las Vegas, you can do since it is the desert! I wish there had been more resources for a guidance counselor as well as a college path, I had a scholarship from the state and never even discussed with anyone how to use it. The support would've been good!
What I do enjoy about Palo Verde High School is the opportunity to enroll, and participate in college courses offered by the College of Southern Nevada. Although, Palo is very much a school lacking diversity. With a majority white student population, and a relatively small minority population. The student council program consists of a somewhat ethnically homogenous group, with the primary background of almost each member being Mormon, white, and raised in the affluent community of Summerlin, and is therefore occasionally incapable of empathizing with the struggles of all students. The focus of Palo Verde's funding appears to be directed heavily towards the football program, and therefore other extracurricular activities including the arts such as theatre, choir, or sports such as women's volleyball suffer from poor funding. This situation has become even more dire during Covid-19, as the school has still failed to allocate any funding to the arts or sports other than football.
Palo Verde has numerous different classes that you can take, including a variety of AP, IB, honors, and Jumpstart CSN classes that you can earn college credits for. Their staff and counselors are very supportive, and nice to students. There are different art classes, and even different 3-year CTE courses that can provide information, and a chance to learn about different possible careers. There are many different sports, including Flag Football, Soccer, Wrestling, Swimming, and more, that can interest many different types of students. There are lots of interesting clubs, and extracurricular activities available to students.
