Honestly, I feel extremely lucky to attend Palisades! The teachers here are amazing and they really care about school problems such as bullying, discrimination, and racism. Teacher play an active role in shaping the school's environment into a hospitable and family-like atmosphere. Teachers take the time to speak to students not only about school, but about their lives. The teachers at Palisades taught me to embrace my unique identity rather than being ashamed of it.
Some of the academics are good (History, some of the science classes, and some of the English classes). Overall it's in a safe area and definitely could be worse. That being said, practically every year (3 out of 4 years) there has been some weird event or hate crime. Other than that, the school somehow runs even though our principal is rumored to be pocketing all of the money the institution receives, which I absolutely believe. The teachers that are good at their job are the minority, the rest of them are tenured, insensitive, and horrible at teaching and nothing is done about it.
It is a good school overall, with strong academics and a strong student body. In the past year students have written and implemented a "student bill of rights and responsibilities" which outlines ways for students to stand up for themselves due to previous incidents where the students felt like their voices weren't heard. The school spirit is not that high but it doesn't really affect the school. The math department is lacking but slowly improving.
