Palisade High School has given me the ultimate high school experience. Between pep rallies, bulldog days, and school dances, there is always something fun going on in Palisade. On top of these awesome activities, the staff that makes the school run is caring, smart, and helpful. The administration consists of one super involved principal, and two brilliant vice principals. Although there are many excellent aspects to love about Palisade, my favorite used to be bulldog days! My freshman year, students with good grades could leave campus one and a half hours early one Wednesday of the month. Students with low grades were required to seek extra help from teachers. I felt as though this program was extremely effective! The bulldog day policies have shifted considerably since my freshman year, and although they are still proving to be effective, nothing beats the extra free time I got my freshman year.
Palisade High School provided a very welcoming and intimate environment. Many of the classes were small, which allowed for more communication between teachers and individual students. In my time there, I forged relationships with teachers that I hope to carry on through the future. The school itself is bureaucratic, which leads to some issues between teachers and administration. Many great teachers were lost during my years there and the school has a long way to go before it can be deemed great. I did enjoy the IB program they offered. It was difficult and not for everyone but if you're good at completing a lot of work then it's manageable.
In my experience at Palisade High School, the teachers act like they want to be there and they genuinely care about their students and their education. The administration is great and does everything they can to make high school a positive experience for the students However, there is a divide between the Ib and regular or AP students. The Ib students are given more opportunities, attention, and are allowed first choice when it comes to scheduling. In the following years I would like to see this school give this much attention to all their students.
