Padua tries to be a welcoming place for everyone, when in reality, it's just not the case. Being a queer student, it's very easy to feel ostracized by the students and staff. The environment is difficult to navigate, being an "all female" catholic school, the energy is extremely conservative. It's really difficult to be something outside of the cultural norms, ie a queer student, a non religious student, a student with left leaning values and views. Struggling with mental health is not really something a student can afford to do. Padua demands a very high level of academic achievement, with almost no room for struggle.
I am extremely grateful for my high school experience and the opportunity to go to Padua Academy. Going into freshman year I immediately felt more than welcomed with ample opportunity to meet my classmates and future best friends. The loving environment encouraged me to be myself and grow as a person without judgement. I was involved in my school as a member of varsity dance team and participant in multiple clubs. The community rooted in the idea of sisterhood always felt like a support system in my life. My teachers always wanted the best for me, and truly cared about all of their students well-being. It shaped me as a confident young woman, both in and out of the classroom. As salutatorian of my graduating class, I was able to express these feelings towards my class through a speech at graduation, which means so much to me. Padua made me extremely prepared for my future both as a student and as a person.
It's not hard to find a group to fit in with at Padua Academy. The school offers a variety of rigorous courses so that everyone can find something they are interested in. These courses are also taught by educated, full-time teachers that enjoy teaching the classes. They are interactive and care about the students, connecting with them each time. Padua Academy also offers many extracurriculars and clubs, some of which are student-run. These groups cover a variety of interests, from sports to art to mathematics and science. However, the school limits each student to 2-3 clubs. The reasoning behind this was to lower stress on the students, but many have found that it actually makes the students look inactive to colleges. Other than that, the students are generally friendly, and the school works to encourage sisterhood in everyone. They host events like spirit days and dances like Winterball for everyone to connect. In terms of the covid situation, Padua has been handling it mediocrely.
