Pacific Law Academy Reviews
Rating 4.08 out of 5 38 reviews
PLA is a very small school with a focus on college readiness, which affects the experience you get here. There were many options for AP courses and dual enrollment, which allowed me to enter college with a full semester's worth of credits and many of my GE requirements finished. I do feel like the school prepared me for college in terms of classes and workload, and there were definitely resources available to help with the process of applying to colleges and choosing what you want to do. Some things to note are that there are no sports teams, although you can play for the neighboring high school, and the school spirit is less than what you would likely get at a large school.
Pacific Law Academy, often known as PLA, is a college preparatory high-school. To be a full-time student, you must be a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior, but seventh and eighth graders at the nearby school (Kohls) has the chance to come to PLA for a period to partake in Algebra 1 and get ahead. The school is small of about 200 or so students, so everyone almost knows one another. As a result of this small school, teachers interact more with students and provide more academic support. However, unlike most high schools, we do not follow the "block" schedule. Instead, we have seven classes year-round (one of them being advisory). So this can be quite demanding, but also helpful in a way that you don't have to spend an hour and more in one course. PLA provides many AP and honor courses, but as it is a small school, most choices for electives are limited. PLA is only one of the many schools in the area.
I've been at PLA since my sophomore year and from my experience I can say that it's not quite like any other school. There are the pros and cons when attending this charter school. This school readily prepares students for college with rigorous academics and great resources, however, the school culture isn't the best. There isn't much school spirit and class participation in activities when it comes to rallies and or events.
