After relocating to Oxford schools as a fourth grader, the kindness I have been shown from students and staff is unrivaled. I’ve been welcomed in with a wide variety of class options, extracurriculars, and opportunities. The teaching staff is clearly knowledgeable and cares deeply for their students. While the food is subpar, the wide range of sport options makes up for it. However, school safety is a major issue. After our high school went through a school shooting, transparency between the administration and students has become a prevalent issue in school politics. It’s been difficult to be back in the same building where such a tragic event occurred. The school has been quick to offer up multiple mental health resources and activities for students to connect to each-other. Although this past year has been incredibly rough, the staff has reached out and has been incredible with students.
This school has many opportunities for its students! This includes having a variety of sports and clubs students can choose to join. The music program is excellent and they continue to make exceptional shows and performances. They also offer a variety of academic classes for students to take, ranging from ceramics to calculus 2. Most of the staff are nice and willing to help students. In every English language arts class and math class, they have SAT prep. They even offer a year course of SAT prep for the Juniors. Although, I personally have not seen much parent involvement. Often, parents do get sent emails but that is all.
I liked how well Oxford High School adapted to change in the school schedule, throughout the pandemic, they have worked tirelessly for their students to have the opportunity to learn. They also have amazing staff that help with everything they possibly can and they show the students how valued they are. Oxford High School's lunch program is exceptional. They offer a wide variety of meals ranging from salads to stir-fry and everything they offer is almost always top tier. the students show enthusiasm about learning day to day and always work their hardest on schoolwork, even when they have other responsibilities to uphold. I would highly recommend enrolling at Oxford High School.
