Extremely caring teachers who go above and beyond to help their students succeed! They offer a wide range of science and math courses for those STEM students. The music and arts that they have to offer are amazing. They offer dual enrollment for those who'd like to start college early as well as AP courses. There are many class traditions that students look forward to each year.
Oxford Area High was certainly a challenge for me. Wasn’t a challenge because of the atmosphere or teachers, but a challenge because I moved to oxford beginning of my junior year. Thankfully, Oxford immediately made me feel welcomed and cared about. My teachers have never failed to have my back and make sure I succeed in my academic career and that I’m also doing well mentally and emotionally.
Teachers care about students; music and arts program are top notch; various academic offerings include college and vocational courses; opportunities for student involvement at the school and surrounding community; and the school building and grounds are clean and managed well.
Room for improvement: (1) better management of the counselor to student ratio; (2) meetings for parent organizations; and (3) student safety.
There are too many students assigned to one high school counselor; a proper, trusted student-counselor relationship cannot be developed. The meetings for parent organizations does not take into account working parents or commuters. Improvements to student safety include added roaming security inside of the school building and annual training for teachers in active shooter, self-defense, health information on seizures, asthma, and learning disabilities, and First aid and CPR certification.
