DO NOT GO TO MERCY! When I began Mercy freshman year, I knew it wasn't the place I was supposed to be. They advertise as though they have rigorous courses, great teachers, well-rounded students, and good administration. I can confirm none of these are true. I went to Mercy looking for difficult classes, not difficult teachers. Out of the ten teachers I had throughout the year, I can only say two cared about my well-being. The administration is extremely condescending. The "empowerment" they ensure your daughter will leave the school with is a lie. Very few girls feel confident in themselves at the school, especially after being talked to like they are in kindergarten. The once difficult classes have become a breeze, even with the lack of teacher help and effort. The girls are not supportive of one another in the slightest. I was not welcomed at all. It is a competition with everything. If you think you are good at something, the girls cannot wait to say they are better. BAD SCHOOL
This is the beginning of my second year at OLMA and I already want to leave. If you want your daughter to be happy, don't send her to OLMA. So many of the girls here are absolutely disgusting and complete bullies. It's also clear that this school is in a financial crisis. It's only November and administration can't go 2 weeks without pestering their students and parents for money or some type of donation. I'm all for helping out and donating where I can, but it's to the point where it's almost embarrassing seeing them practically beg for money whenever and wherever they can. It makes the students uncomfortable. Communication in this school is absolutely horrible. Teachers and staff expect the students to have to go out of their own way to clarify things that should already have been clarified. I think Mercy gets off the hook because as a result of their enrollment slowly declining, there aren't enough parents to complain. The things that slide here would never happen at KMHS or SA.
Walking onto the Mercy campus my first day of freshman year, I knew that I was home. Mercy offers an abundance of courses, clubs, and sports that I'm able to select to cater to my interests. The staff is available and supportive. With my interest in science, I have several challenging courses & a research program, I take. I am also an avid dancer & at Mercy, I take dance class, instead of P.E. & I'm able to participate in the club, Dance Works, therefore furthering my ability. Mercy also provides a block in the day, called wellness, allowing me to take a mental break in the day. Mercy also gives the chance for me to play two varsity sports. After all of this, Mercy still leaves time for friends. OLMA has found me life-long friendships and connections, and opportunities to grow closer to people from all grades. The Disney Field Trip and Sports Night are great examples of fun-filled weekends where lifelong connections are made. The energy at Mercy is powerful, and contagious.
