Orinda Academy provides a high level of support and accommodations for students with learning differences. For example: getting a meeting scheduled with a team of student support staff, can often be arranged for the next day -- the level of support for students (and parents) is beyond outstanding. When students are having a rough day, the staff notices quickly and gets involved. Having adults who care about your student, with them every day, makes a huge difference in personal development and academic achievement.
The students are happy, they work well together, the teachers are great and care about their students. The student population is diverse, and your student will be welcome, and acknowledged for his or her strengths.

The small amount of students, while resulting in limited class choices, is a godsend for the socially unconfident. The classes aren't usually split into advanced and normal, so some classes may move too slowly for the motivated student. However, the administration is extremely accommodating if you want to take on extra challenges to make your curriculum more rigorous. At the same time, if you need extra help they can give you that too. To quote my father, "I have never seen a school that gives *this* much of a s*** about its students." The teachers are there to help you every step of the way, and the fact that there are so few students results in amazing leadership opportunities for the motivated (instead of competing with dozens of students to be cheer captain or Student Council President, you're competing with one or two at most). This school has given me tons of confidence in my social interactions and has jump started my academic career. I went from someone who skipped school once every couple weeks to someone who loathed to miss even a day when I was sick. OA has definitely changed my life for the better, and a similar sentiment has been echoed by my classmates.
The administration at Orinda is more concerned with the face of the school than fixing serious problems in campus culture. The school has been made aware on several occasions of the racism that has been allowed to fester on campus and hasn't made any visible effort to curb it. This bigotry isn't just limited to racism. Students have been reported saying homophobic and ableist slurs with little to no repercussions. As a school that prides itself on inclusivity and a zero-tolerance policy of any bullying or harassment, this is extremely disappointing and unsettling.
