For being located on a small island, Orcas Island High School was a brilliant place to spend my last years of school before college. The high school is small, so you get sufficient attention from your teachers. The small number of students also makes it for a very nice, friendly environment. The teachers are excellent, kind, and show great care and interest in the success of your future and wellness of your being.

Interesting environment, decent academics, and impressive for its size. Despite its drawbacks (small size, tendencies towards mediocrity, potholes) its teachers are often surprisingly good. If you're a fan of a close-knit community, this is the place ... except if you're not the type to want in on what the 10th grader sitting next to you at one of the two lunch tables thinks about his mother's boyfriend's dog. Orcas isn't a liberal white rich haven, either -- none of the kids are as educated on anything as you'd think for such a liberal place, and the school isn't a paragon of academic quality. Though, community support and teachers (though not all teachers!) make up for some of it.
There are a few very good teachers that I actually learn from at my school. However a good majority of them I do not feel like they actually teach me anything and anything I need to learn I have to teach myself. The limited class selections because of the smalls school really do not help because there are not options for students. Most of the teachers take interest in the students but some just do not care to even be at school teaching. Their communication skills are more than not clear, and I have found that the only consistency in grading has been from the same teachers who I actually learn from.
