Yes, no school is perfect, but I believe that this school's problems are the fault of the Hamilton County school district. School funds are given to sports teams, and music and the arts are given nothing. As a band student, I can easily say that music programs have been neglected by the county. Not only are the school funds not divided equally, there is unequal treatment of students. For example, a student on a sports team will only be suspended for breaking a school rule but anyone else would be expelled for doing the same thing. The county has allowed this to happen.

I really enjoyed my experience through high school at Ooltewah. I loved the teachers and I felt they really helped us as students try and be the best we could be. If I needed any help in school, not only did the teachers help but so did staff and administration. I always felt safe within the community and around my peers. It was very easy to be involved which to me, is a big deal when your in high school. I was involved in Leadership, Dance Team, and Beta Club. In every club everyone was very friendly and supportive. I always felt included in what was going on and overall I felt it was a great experience to be apart of all through my high school years. The only thing I would like to see change is maybe to let the students have a little more freedom considering we are growing up. By that I mean, less strict rules that are negatively affecting students rather than positive impacts.
Ooltewah isn't the most organized school on the planet, but it does offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which is highly esteemed internationally. There are some teachers that are absolutely fabulous, and it is obvious that they are passionate in their teaching and within their relationships with students. Of course however, there are some teachers who don't seem to have the same passion. There were fights pretty often, but they never lasted long, and there were never any other serious threats to the safety of anybody at the school. The band was amazing, an preformed in one of the Macy's parades as well as the Rose Bowl parade, but the band director has retired. All in all, it wasn't a terrible school.
