During my time at Ontario I was able to get a great education! Teachers push students for greatness and help mold students into independent individuals. The class sizes my not be small but teachers seem to care about each student that come into their classroom. The only things that I am not impressed with at the school is how it encourages popularity contest as well as not have the best diversity in the school. Being a black student there, I didn't like that I was being treated differently then some other students. There was no black person on staff which kind of concerned me but I didn't think to much of it at the time. That was until I was being bullied and pushed out of friend groups. I tried to talk to a teacher about it but they simply dismissed it. That's why I am giving the school a 3 out of 5.
Although there are some amazing teachers and I specifically applaud the music department for making my experience at the high school amazing, there are fundamental flaws within the administration which crippled my experience and view of the school thereafter. They enable horrible teachers and make a boys club out of education. After reaching out later about a bad, some might say traumatic, experience with a current teacher from years prior, I was sent a generic reply. They funnel all, and I mean all, funds to the athletics department, specifically the football team which in my final year there went 2-8. The school also pushes a curriculum that is almost impossible to meet and drags anyone who doesn't. That being said, I am currently studying at a top state school and learned a lot from majority of my teachers.
We work to be the highest level possible, and our teachers are great at helping us learn and develop throughout our years in high school. We have a great honors program that allows students to develop their higher level thinking skills in several different subjects. However, I would like to see more higher level courses added instead of having only a minimal amount of options. Overall, the community is great, and everyone works to help each other improve.
