Overall I enjoyed my years here at South High, we have many good teachers who actually try to connect and engage with their students. We also have a lot of different after school clubs and sports! If I could change once thing about my school it would probably be a better bathroom system. To explain, every day all the bathrooms are locked except one to keep students from skipping or wandering around in the halls. The issue is they chose what bathrooms to keep open at random so really they aren’t helping the “wandering student” problem. There’s only about 5-6 stalls available the entire school so on average you have to wait at least 5 minutes before going.
During my high school years I was fortunate to have an enriching and fulfilling education experience. Thanks to supportive teachers and the nurturing environment in which Omaha South high made. The Environment encourage personal growth and self development. Which lead to self improvement I was fortunate enough to have teacher that taught me a new way of note taking which unlocked so much potential I was unaware I had. Beyond the academic realm, my high school also fostered a culture of inclusivity and support. There were numerous extracurricular activities and clubs available each catering to diverse interests and passions.
I love it at South High! It's a school with a high diversity not only in race but in cultures, religious beliefs, gender, and sexualities. The best part and what I loved most about South High was that the staff and students are mainly open-minded, so one doesn't feel out of place or unsafe with the fear of being judged. It also really helps that we have a GSA club that works not only as a safe place for those in the LGBTQ+ community but it's also a club where one can go to get educated on not only matters of the LGBTQ+ community but on how to overall see the world with a much more open-minded view. I always felt like South was home outside of the home with how welcoming and understanding the staff is and on top of the fact that the staff is really devoted to the students. I would've said that security is one thing that should improve because it used to be that students could leave and re-enter the building as they please but now that's not the case with the mandatory student ID's.
