Olympia High School has so much going for it! With such wonderful teachers and opportunities for students to get out of their comfort zones, there is really so much to be proud of. And yet, Olympia still has its problems. For one, there is really a lack of student representation, especially within the student government. It is nearly impossible to get legislation passed through ASB because ASB is a class of its own, and not an extracurricular. Many students are unable to fit in ASB as a class because of their other commitments, causing the ASB to remain aloof from the majority of student voices and has thus created an "elitist" like environment. ASB is also not simply a place for students to come if they want to express a change, it requires membership and an application. In addition, the safety at this school has definitely been an issue, especially with student-caused fires and threats. But the administration is doing its best to create a better environment for all students.
I love how Olympia HS is inclusive they are with running start students. The staff is amazing and many of them have great connections with students. We have a lot of school pride, so assemblies and sporting events are super fun. Many of our clubs have reached outstanding levels and many state representatives, for example, FBLA, have been from our school!
There are a lot of people that go to my school, so it's usually pretty crowded in the halls. However, there are so many opportunities to make new friends and participate in new things. I also feel like the staff are really invested in every single student. I have made many good relationships with teachers, administrators, and friends while at Olympia High School. It's a very welcoming place and super friendly. One of my favorite parts about Olympia High School is the football games because the student section is huge and loud. Everyone, especially the upperclassmen is all about school spirit! Go Bears!
