Overall, my experience with South has been very positive. Most of the teachers are really good, especially the english department. The science department is pretty lacking in good teachers, so that's annoying. Overall, it seems like both teachers and administrators care about you and try their best to help you succeed. My biggest gripe is that there is a large focus on sports and less so on the arts. But, that is to be expected with larger public high schools. It's also pretty white and kind of a drug school, but I haven't really had exposure to those drugs so I guess it's not that rampant. There is access to lots of technology and I have felt quite prepared for any standardized tests. I have enjoyed my time here!

Olathe South is filled with good people. Good teachers, good classmates, and good administration. When it comes to education Olathe South is nothing special. It has its share of dedicated and hardworking teachers, however, there's only so much a teacher can do with limited resources and limited motivation from students. These issues aren't by fault of the school itself, but the lack of caring from the Brownback administration. Olathe South is as good as public schools can be in Kansas as lack of funding and acknowledgement from state government has left students stranded and teachers struggling to find help. The only reason it's able to do so decently is because it's in the richest county in Kansas.
Olathe South High School is a building that has taught me more about myself in the past three years than I ever expected to learn. I discovered my proclivity for public speaking and performance from the forensics program and my debate coach's Ms. Smith and Ms.Ball. I found a personal revelation in jewelry and wood shop when I realized the satisfaction working with my hands brings me. I look around at my fellow students and see their own personal journeys as they excel in sports and dance team and robotics and the multitude of extracurricular activities and clubs offered here. The greatest thing Olathe South has taught me isn't how to solve fractions or write an essay but how to recognize my own personal talent and worth as a person. I only wish that the school lunches did not taste so abysmal, if i had to differentiate between my school's hamburger patty and a circular piece of rubber I would be hard pressed to give a quick answer.
