Since its inception in 1911, Ojai Valley School has held progressive education & character development at the center of its philosophy & practice. “Educating the whole child” is more than a statement of intent. Our academic, residential life, athletic, & outdoor programs create opportunities for intellectual growth & character development in all grades.

The strength of our program is rooted in integrity, compassion, fairness, responsibility, respect, & perseverance.

At OVS, students can ride a horse, build a robot, learn to surf, & jam with the Garage Band — all in one week. The diversity of programs, coupled with small class sizes & a close-knit community, creates a place where students can pursue their passions & discover new ones.

Our two campuses (Lower Campus, PK-8th grade, & Upper Campus, 9th-12th grade) are surrounded by national forest. We are located 30 minutes from the beach & 90 minutes from Los Angeles, allowing us to take advantage of the best California has to offer.

Our family has been a part of the OVS community for about two years and we have been very happy with our child's experience. In addition to fostering a sense of community, the variety within OVS's curriculum is hard to match - from standard academics to extracurriculars, OVS offers a plethora of ways for kids to learn about themselves and each other. I'm not familiar with (m)any PreK-8 or Pre-K-12 schools that have music, art, tech/maker, woodworking, and sports (including equestrian) programs, and OVS has all of these! The teachers and administrators are accessible and have been impressive with their COVID response and ability to keep kids in school.

I am a graduate of the school as well as a current parent. I cannot speak highly enough of the OVS educational experience. They truly provide a top-notch education while simultaneously educating the whole student. Graduates are well-rounded and mature. They have all of the skills necessary to be successful in life. I was a day student but was always begging my parents to drop me off on the weekends to participate in the residential life programs. The weekend trips were phenomenal. You see all of the major California staples like Disneyland, Universal Studios etc. but there is also time for the beach, parks, hikes, bike rides, exploring the local markets. The education was top notch. I went on to attend a major Southern California University and I found myself more than prepared. The camping, the horses, the robotics, the drama program, art, woodshop, music...these are all integral parts of the education and OVS gets that. My kids love it as much as I did. We are an OVS family!

My two Elementary/MS aged children have been enrolled at OVS Lower Campus for three years. Moving from the East Coast, I knew finding a good school fit and establishing a strong community would aid in our transition. We could not be happier with our OVS choice and experience! The leadership, faculty and staff, academic/extracurricular experience, overall culture, and extended parent community have all been top notch. The way OVS has managed the pandemic is nothing short of impressive. My kids are happy to go to school every day—what more could a parent ask for?
