I love this program because I have one special needs student and one accelerated and this program accommodates both learning styles. Homeschooling always seemed awesome but I have no experience creating a curriculum and executing lessons so getting started seemed daunting to start on my own. This program lines all of that out for you, provides all of the materials and resources to be able to do this and you are definitely not on your own! All of the other kids at face-to-face events are so well-behaved and pleasant and the teachers are experienced, nice and awesome. Love it!

My name is Brianna Salo and computers are my life! I was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, type 1. My parents were told that I would not live past the age of 2. However, I am almost 18 now, and I will be graduating with honors this June, thanks to the online program at Ohio Virtual Academy. Getting the right education has been my toughest challenge in life. My disease affects the basic functions of life, like walking, breathing, and swallowing, but it does not affect a person's ability to think, learn, and build relationships with others. My local public school could not meet my educational needs, they isolated me and I suffered academically. When I finally started online classes at OHVA, the teachers, advisors, and counselors were so caring and helpful, that I have flourished under their instruction. My student responsibility and academic integrity have improved so much more than when I attended public school, and I have made so many friends online.
I switched to OHVA after my health problems became too intense for me to go to a traditional school. The flexibility of the school allows me to go to doctor appointments any time I need, provided I watch the class recordings. It is a little tedious that you don't get any absent days, but it really isn't that hard to watch the recordings. I found that in online school it is easier to keep track of your grades because your entire plan is right in front of you. For anyone who doesn't do well in a brick and mortar school, OHVA might be right for you!
