Average school. Best aspect of the school is the safety students feel. Doors are locked in the morning and visitors must be buzzed in the building. Secretaries are able to view the face and speak to visitors before unlocking the door to the school.
I like how many college classes are offered to students. I feel that some of the employee's need to be replaced.
Would love to see the administration more involved in and caring about activities other than the main sports more.
I enjoyed the small school aspect and being able to be friends with everyone. I like being able to know everyone's name. I wish we had more diversity in the LGBTQ community as well as just different races.
all students friendly, teachers willing to help, teachers need to be involved more outside of school hours
The Oelwein High School has allowed for many great opportunities for its students, adding new programs not only in sports, but academically as well. The majority of students will be able to find classes to fit their needs, not only high school credit, but also college credit classes offered through the NICC RAMS center, where students from surrounding districts also attend with Oelwein students, with several Oelwein teachers being the professors for the classes allowing for easy communication. Even though our sports teams are not the best, the fans and support for the events has continued to rise as the programs begin to become better. The school allows a lot of freedoms to its students, such as open campus to seniors, coffee shop, different clubs and activities, and study tables.
My experience with Oelwein High School has been great! The staff truly does care about the students and they believe the students have high potential. The teachers and staff expect a lot from us because they know we can achieve great things in our futures. Also the school spirit at Oelwein is awesome. We support all our athletics with school spirit and also just being there for them. There is honestly nothing I would really want to be changed at Oelwein High School because my experience has been the best. I am proud to say that I went to school at Oelwein.
I think we have great teachers at Oelwein High School. There are a lot of opportunities for kids to be involved in and be active. We have great sportsmanships and activities. Oelwein is a small town and the school is a very safe learning environment. You pretty much know just about every kid in school and get to know them personally. It is a great learning environment to be around and I enjoy going there.
Oelwein is a poverty filled town, our school has a lot of children on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program because of the people in the area. Our School is a little rough on the edges but has a good inside. I honestly wouldn't want to grow up anywhere else. I would compare our school to a cookie. The edge of a cookie is a little crisp maybe a little burnt, not the best. But, the middle of the cookie, what's on the inside and what counts, that's our school. It's what goes on in the inside that counts. Oelwein has wide variety of great facilities for students and the community to use, creating great school and a good school district to attend.
I have been class president for all 4 years in high school. This has been a great way for me to meet everyone and include my classmates in decisions and events. It is easy to be involved in a lot of activities because this school is small.
There were teachers who did really well, and there were also that I myself did not care for. Some of them did not provide much help if I was struggling, and most, I did not have a relationship with. This is something that always bugged me about that school. Some of my friends who still attend say that they do not care for their teachers either.
I think that the extracurriculars were alight, but definitely not the best out there. There were sports, and music, and FFA, however that is about all there was in our school district. There definitely could be more involvement, and more opportunities for students who go to school here.
I feel that the school did an okay job at preparing me for the real world. There were a few troubles a long the way, such as when my transcripts were not sent on time like I requested, and a few teachers definitely needed to work on relationships with students. However, I did feel prepared to make my decisions on schooling after high school, as well as decided what I wanted my major to be based off guidance I received in school. In the long run, I really do appreciate what they have given me.
I'm not involved in much outside of my job, training for my promotion and band. There isn't enough time in the day.
While the teachers here are fantastic at being knowledgable about their area of study, some need to be more open to students ideas and be able to adapt to learning styles. Our music directors for choir and band are PERFECT examples of teachers who are great in their areas of study and teaching them to students.
The food is really good and have a wide-variety of options for the students to choose from. Every year, the director manages to add new things to the menu.
Alongside multiple physical education options, the school offers great sports programs. The school also happens to have state-of-the-art exercise facilities.
