I transferred into the school my junior year. I was shocked by the downgrade. The community is small and students are uninspired and eager to leave. There is very little school spirit outside of sports and the community has nothing for teenagers to do. Ignoring the drug problem amongst students and casual disregard for minority groups, particularly lgbt+ students who experience prejudice and ignorance from students and staff alike, the school itself is falling apart. Most facilities have not been remodeled since the 80’s if ever and is victim to poor plumbing, water damage, and general disrepair. However the football field gets new turf every two years and is the only part of the school that looks even remotely modern. In general, I am frustrated and disgusted and, like most other students, very eager to leave

Oakdale High School is in the middle of a small country town in central valley. Therefore I knew mostly everyone in my graduating class, and majority of my classmates were the same people that I was also in kindergarten with. That being said, what we lacked was diversity and exposure to culture. Oakdale was a safe and educational high school with an incredible sports reputation and a surplus of talented students and educators. However after attending different schools now that I have studied Early Childhood Education, I firmly believe that Oakdale High School would benefit from more exposure to diversity, culture, and social justice education. I truly believe that my real life experience visiting and analyzing other schools has shown me how much a student can learn from experience, and I think that Oakdale's school system should embody that idea in order to help advance their future students educational success!
I am so thankful for being able to have gone to such a great school and have such amazing classmates. They have provided the upperclassmen with countless opportunities to prepare for college including having college admissions people visit to talk to us, having people from different walks of life come to talk about their careers, having great teachers to talk to, great school pride and culture, and amazing sports programs. We always win counties in lacrosse, won Maryland State Championship for football, often win States and compete nationally for Track and Field, won states for soccer, among countless other successes.
