High School is a fun experience for me. I played JV and Varsity golf my Sophomore and Junior year. I have scoliosis and sitting in one spot for an extended period of time can be painful for me. It also brought my Club soccer and golf career at Oak Hills to an end. It was extremely painful and emotional for me. I'm three inches shorter from the curvature and underweight because of it too, which got me turned down for the high school soccer program. I decided to join Student Council my Freshman year and have bee a member all 4 years. It has been a fun experience to be apart of the events going on at the high school. I have many friends in dance, football, soccer and golf. I try to make as many of their sporting games/matches/competitions as possible. I feel a family atmosphere among my friends at Oak Hills High School.
Oak Hills High School had many wonderful teachers that actually wanted to help students succeed and the music department was wonderful. Being in the band at Oak Hills was like being in a second home because it really is like one big happy family. Many teachers were very understanding of personal issues and tried not to get on your case about certain things. It would be great if every teacher was like that but that seems sort of unrealistic. I also would like a longer lunch period as that is students' only time to really unwind, relax, and hang out with friends. Even if this meant a longer school day, I think it would be beneficial to students. Oak Hills is overall a pretty good school. There are some fights and some not so great teachers but overall, it isn't a bad school to go to. There are a lot of people there who genuinely want to help others succeed and that is the most important thing a school can have.
Overall, Oak Hills fosters a mediocre environment for learning. The staff seldom shows they care. However, the ones that do care make the schools atmosphere enjoyable to the students. The administration is condescending to the students and often acts like they're above the student body. Authority figures should be kind and held to a higher standard. But with this, the school tends to give students a hand in choosing things that impact the student body. Such as creating a theme for prom, creating clubs, decorating hallways during homecoming, and dictating when spirit week will be. Overall, Oak Hills is a relatively average high school.
