The lower school experience at Oak Hill is wonderful! Specialist teachers enrich the standard elementary curriculum with language classes (beginning in kindergarten in 3 different languages), music, public speaking, outdoor exploration and naturalism. Every student, K-12, has PE every day. The teachers are dedicated and highly skilled. I have had kids at different private and public elementary schools, and I have been so impressed with the quality of the education and the strength of the community at Oak Hill. It is a great option in the Lane County area.

I transferred in towards the beginning of my junior year and graduated from there, and I had a fantastic stay. It is a VERY small school, so you learn everybody's faces and most of their names rather quickly. Cliques are present, but they are loose and friendly. Bullying is uncommon, though the occasional snarky comment is made and feelings can be hurt. This is a big deal at the school, and is therefore dealt with swiftly. The teachers are personable, helpful, and actually know the subject they are teaching. I would like if the younger and older kids had more chances to interact with one another, but I understand the difficulties. I absolutely recommend this school to you - just be prepared for a whole lot of homework that will show on your unweighted GPA! Also, sidenote: their college prep is extremely helpful.
I have two sons at Oak Hill, and could not be happier. It is a lovely and safe rural setting that is so Oregonian and nature focused. The amount of amazing teacher contact is extraordinary. In addition to top flight academics, they have the opportunity to experience drama, band, debate, field trips, etc. They would not be in the same range of activities at a larger school where competition would force them to specialize. One son plays baseball at a local public school, so gets the sports there, but top academics at Oak Hill. Both are into AP languages (Mandarin Chinese and Spanish) with trips to China and Mexico as part of the offering. Oak Hill is small but bats way above its size with a quality program that is super impressive for the relatively modest tuition compared to what my relatives pay in other parts of the country.
