My daughter has attended Thorp since Kindergarten & is now about begin 8th grade. We love the school & the teachers are great! Parents are very involved and it's just a very welcoming environment.
I learned but only at home. The teachers would give us one assignment then sit at their desk the whole class
Thorp is an amazing school with supportive teachers, wonderful staff and involved parents. My daughter has attended Thorp for three years, and we feel extremely lucky to be a part of this great community.
We have two children attending OA Thorp - kindergarten and fourth grade - and we love the school, the staff and the parent community. We feel extremely lucky to have such a great school for our kids. The kids are challenged, the parents are involved and I feel the environment is safe and supportive. Thank you!
I believe th school can go for some upgrades to its facility. Tutoring is needed, busing can be better there are no attendants where my son is picked up at. The school will not pay for that.
My experience with some of the teachers has been great and not so great. I have had teachers to express concern but lacks the energy to work with my child. I have had some teachers that was able to handle my child energy level. The teaching styles overall needs improvement we must get away from the old style of teaching, every child learns differently. I know for a fact my son is more of a visual learner. He can't sit through long lectures, he needs interaction. The grading is consistent, I do believe the teachers are knowledgeable. I do believe the school is separate the children based on the way they learn which isn't right.
My overall experience with Thorp is okay. I think it has room for improvement, the teachers can give a little more of themselves with the students. The grounds of the schools are kept well, but upgrades are needed. I love the diversity and the safety. More options on the food my son is not ever happy with the lunch. I think the student need to be able to come home with books and not ditto sheets.
Once you reach middle school, they offer basketball ,track and softball. I have never attended any games because my son currently doesn't play.
They offer after school programs but it cost. I would like to see more culture clubs, instrument offers, sports at an early age. More trips to the museum for the children. This school has no culture.
The social scene is fine, this is my second child that has attended the school. I have had no problems it's very diverse.
Well because my son district school was a failing school, he had to go through an application process which was simple and easy.
I think that the school is a good school. However I don't think it's a great fit for my son. I have been told by teachers that because my son is very active that they cannot just focus on him. I know my son has the ability to learn, but teachers need to be open to different ways of teaching. Because of this I'm not sure how well my son will be prepared going into the fourth grade.
The school was very diverse.
Thorp has a lot of school spirit and fitness programs
The administration was very involved with the students and the guidance counselor was very helpful.
They offered a lot of tutoring and encouraged parent involvement. They are one of the few schools that still have busing.
Thorp is very diverse and encourages student involvment.
