As a four year student at the NYC iSchool, and a student during online learning, I have seen many sides of the school. From teachers leaving to new teachers arriving, most, if not all, staff members are extremely open and friendly while still maintaining professional student-teacher relationships. There is a nice balance between challenging academics and understandable review within each class. The diversity between students is improving and cultural understanding only grows with it. Through years since the school's debut, sports have been always somewhat secondary, however.
NYC iSchool is a very open-minded environment, everyone is able to be themselves. Students wear whatever they want there is no dress code, the older grades have more liberty but more responsibility in order to teach them time management skills for college. There are a lot of clubs and events for a student to show their skills. Personally, I loved the college readiness of the school, in a few months I'll be a first-generation college student and I think the college office has really prepared me for the college prosses and finding scholarships and resources, they do a great job in keeping track of students but it's the student's responsibility to stay on track of their prosses. One thing I think they could improve on would be the way students would get their grades, I think the school offers a lot of second chances and that's not realistic for college.
This school has a fantastic community and I feel as if there is always at least one adult in the building that a student can find to connect with, which can be extremely helpful. The iSchool has pushed me to think in different ways about topics I never really discussed before. Academically, there is much to explore, and something for everyone. There's a lot of room to learn what you want to learn and to even take risks! It is a small space since the school is in a shared building, but the community is ever growing and I really do believe that it has been a great place to spend my high school years at.
