If you are an LGBT student please avoid this school, I could never come out during my four years here as I knew that I would be shunned by my peers and the administration would either do nothing about it or actively side with the homophobes. So if you are homophobic this is the perfect school for you! Beyond just LGBT students this school has really no diversity at all, though I am white so I cannot speak about this personally I have heard that many students of color face discrimination by their peers as well. The only reason I have given this school 3 stars is because my teachers really were incredible, most of them had my best interests at heart and were very accepting overall, in addition to excellently preparing my for my college studies. My religion teachers were especially kind and accepting, unfortunately many of them had to leave due to the rampant homophobia by the parents and administration. To sum it up, excellent teachers, horrible administration and community.
My child entered NDP last year. And I am a teacher at another school. It is from the lens of both parent and teacher that I view NDP. The first thing that I noticed is how the adults (parents, faculty, admin.) reach out to new families. They are SO friendly. What a relief to feel authentically welcomed. An inclusive community benefits all of its members and is a good place for learning. I next noticed my child's experiences in the academic realm. She was definitely working hard and at times felt stretched to maintain the standard that she'd set for herself. Well, good! That stretch is where real learning takes place. The students at NDP are set up to succeed, have a lot of support, and do well if they are willing to work hard. Finally, I would say that my child fits in well because she enjoys sports and clubs and she made some good friends in this way. In all, our first year as part of the NDP community was wonderful and we are grateful to have found this school. Go Irish!
My daughter has attended ND for 2 years and is beginning her third year this fall. She will be in the 7th grade. The communication at ND/Marist is excellent and the curriculum is rigorous. The staff and administration are top notch. They are eager to teach and take a genuine interest their students. I would like to see more inclusiveness with the students. Also, there is a lot of homework, which can be frustrating at times. Safety is a main priority and we feel confident dropping our daughter off with the security measures and staff that’s in place. Finally, having God as the center of the school and a Marist Mission is one of the things we love the most!
