As a student who attended Notre Dame fully, it's not shocking to see how sport friendly this school is. Sports such as Football and Basketball are valued. Clubs and activities such as NJROTC is another valued branch of the school. Although, as an artistic student the art/music/performance branch is barely recognized. At the time we only had one art teacher, one music teacher and a drama CLUB instructor... not even a drama class. Which is something I hope they can expand on in the future. Preparation for collage was not given to me through Notre Dame as much as I was given it in BOCES, a separate school. Another thing I wish the school expanded on was exploration of diversity, equality; for example we only had one girl's bathroom besides the girl's locker room. Where the boys had two, one on each floor again excluding the locker room. Although these things were frustrating, the education and professionalism within the staff was alluring and wonderful.
Notre Dame is absolutely the best high school in the Utica area, in regards to both education and value. As a private Catholic school, it is expensive, but it will be worth the investment into your child's education, as well as their potential connections. The academics are definitely excellent, while the high school experience, namely food, clubs, and the like are fairly standard. Considering the location, it is likewise an extremely safe school.
Coming to Notre Dame Junior/Senior High School was a very daunting task for me. I have previously attended Rome Catholic High School which had a very small student count. While Notre Dame is still rather small it was a big transition for me. The students were very welcoming and the teachers were personable and very helpful. There is a definite lack of teachers for subjects and a major lack in class opportunities. The sports program at Notre Dame is highly venerated. There are many sports teams with many students in them. However, there are often sports teams which students have to join other schools to participate independently from Notre Dame. While the sports teams are supported heavily and highly there is a scarcity in support for other extracurricular activities with music and arts. Notre Dame promotes being college ready and encourages studying by being one of the only schools that provides a tenth period. Notre Dame is a charming School with many benefits despite its drawbacks.
