I am the mother of a pre-primary student who is in his second year at NFA. Our son is in a small class with an exceptional teacher. The classroom is warm and loving. The physical space is full of light and learning tools. NFA educates the whole child: with his teacher's support and guidance, my son has excelled both socially and academically. My son has forged strong relationships with faculty members and school friends. Since beginning at Norwood, he has grown so much in how he expresses his feelings as well as how he navigates friendships and interpersonal conflicts. Simultaneously, he has found his footing academically - impressing me daily with what he has learned and how enthusiastic he is to have learned it. The teacher uses technology to stay in touch with parents and keep us apprised of what is going on in the classroom each day: she organizes learning centers that deliver instruction in such a creative and fun way! I know he will be extremely well prepared for kindergarten.
NFA is a great school for typical learners. However, it doesn't suit the needs of anyone with a learning disability or developmental delay. My son falls into these categories and languished for a year at NFA and we were unable to get meetings with his teachers or administration to discuss a solution. He was well-liked by teachers and students but spent most of his time in his own world. He was shuffled from one teacher to another, but no one was able to help. Worse, communication from these teachers was non-existent. They were afraid to address the problem and instead buried their heads while our child suffered. It's perfectly fine if a school is not a good fit for a child; it's not acceptable to ignore them and pleas for help from parents in order to collect a tuition check. If your child has a disability, please consider a public school where services are guaranteed. NFA will not help.
We have had a wonderful experience at NFA. The admissions department is fantastic. Our daughters teacher is one of a kind- she has been a wonderful resource for us as parents and the growth and development of our daughter has been by leaps and bounds. The parent community is excellent. Our daughter is enrolled in the Montessori program which is superb. We are very appreciative of the school and all that it offers to our family.
