I was recently a student here and while athletic events were very fun & involving for students, academics were severely lacking. I made mostly good grades due to studying excessively & finding study tools online that were more helpful than what I learned in the classrooms. Some teachers are exceedingly helpful, but most teachers at this school spoke of their personal lives & chatted to teachers or students more than they taught. It was to the point I could get more work done at home than we ever got sitting in the classrooms hearing personal details rather than getting the education we need to prepare us for college. Typical school days consisted of sitting and listening and not getting required course work done until the day before a test, and being forced to cram all my studying in two days before a major test because of so much wasted time. Many of the teachers are barely out of college or unmotivated. My biggest regret was not going to another school for a better education.

The school's population is so overcrowded that the faculty can't keep a hand over the students. They pretend they care about bullying issues but students who are bullied are ignored. They also ignore student complaints about teachers. They care more about being an A school, their sports teams, and having as many AP/DC students that they can than about the mental health and general wellbeing of their students. There's so many students it's hard to be seen or acknowledged for any of your good achievements and you kind of just fade into the background. You have to struggle to be heard. It's a school district I've wanted to get away from for my whole life, and I've been in the district since kindergarten.
I've been going to Northwest Rankin all of my life and I've met many unique people! You always have someone to go to if you ever need to ask questions or want to get involved! Everyone on faculty seems to genuinely care for the students and their education! I would like to see the students interact more! the groups and cliques are very prominent in the classrooms and halls. If we could all get along and put our judgements aside, our school would be 5 star!
