Personally, I did enjoy my high school experience at Northwest, but their is still a lot that could be done to improve the school. There are a lot of teachers that are excellent and invested in their work, but their are also some teachers that are very poor at either controlling their classroom or getting work done. The facilities such as the bathrooms, drinking fountains, and mobile classrooms are horrible. Although I see janitors working all the time who are invested in their work, the school still has trouble keeping clean at times (mostly in the bathrooms). Also the school is way too overcrowded, so much so that there wasn't enough desks for students at the beginning of the year. Most of the faculty is great! However, Northwest doesn't have the best pride (we stopped having pep rallies because very little people would participate). Despite its flaws, it is a decent school to attend for students that want a great education.
Northwest is a great choice for any academic-seeking individuals. Offering over 25 AP courses and 50 honors selections, Northwest is made for the academic. However, it doesn't just stop there! Northwest also has national-ranked sports teams/programs! The only downside to the school is the out-of-date facilities. Additionally, the workload is heavy, and there is a constant playing of the "numbers game" among the top students to secure a high (or top) class ranking. But overall, Northwest is an amazing high school!
I am currently a senior at Northwest Guilford High and I've had a wonderful experience. The academics are excellent and the majority of teachers are able to properly prepare their students for exams and ensure college readiness. It is a very large school (approximately 2,100) and therefore it is quite competitive. Even so, the large, competitive environment enables students to have experiences similar to those found in colleges or careers and prepares them accordingly. However, while the common requirements of school programs are greatly established at Northwest, the school lacks diversity and culture. This is, unfortunately, a probable result of the school's location. Otherwise, the school is perfect for those looking to be prepared for their long-term plans.
