Northview is a good sized high school and community--big enough to provide ample class and activity opportunities, yet small enough to know most of your classmates and teachers. The community is supportive but sometimes over-focused on athletics, specifically boy's athletics. This culture, in addition to an abstinence only health education, can perpetuate a system of male superiority. The quality of teachers varies widely, but most are good and some are phenomenal. There is opportunity to find your place somewhere at this school if you are seeking it out. Whether it is on an athletic team, in art classes, in band, student council, National Honor Society, or in a club individuals can flourish. Class opportunities are ample but students could benefit from more involved and enthusiastic academic counselors. Community involvement and school pride is high here, which is great as long as it does not exclude. Overall this school is very good but has room to grow.
I loved my experience at Northview High School. The variety of clubs and events to be involved in was excellent. In my 4 years here, I was involved in Student Council, National Honors Society, DYP, SADD, multiple varsity sports, and more! The teachers truly care about not only the students academic success, but the emotional standpoint as well.
Northview was a school, as a student, that I sought out based on the academic challenge and opportunities for rare classes to help guide my career choice. I approached my parents about transferring from my current school and attending Northview. I needed to give valid reasons and examples before they would consider, so I did my homework. It is three years later and as a senior, transferring to Northview High School was a great choice.
