I went to Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy in the spring semester of my senior year because I was having a terrible experience in my previous school. As soon as I walked into the school I noticed how much respect is mutual between staff and students, which I really enjoyed. that was probably my favorite aspect about the school because it was unlike anything I had experienced before. Bottom line, this school is weird, it is not the typical american school. At Northpoint, student's opinions matter, and participation is key. There, you learn not only academics skills, but also things you will use for the rest of life. You also build a community full of different types of people that are there to help and support you. Overall, I have had a wonderful experience at this school and I definitely recommend it. We are crew not passengers!
The teachers were very inclusive and welcoming. It was easy to be yourself and feel free and spirited. There was a lot of focus on learning about the events of the world and doing service within the community, throughout the state and sometimes out of state. We had the opportunity to learn unique skills such as rock climbing, camping, cooking, and leadership.
Northpoint Expeditionary School gave me the opportunity to grow and be successful, without the feeling of abandonment. During my four years at Northpoint, there were multiple times when I needed some extra guidance and I was fortunate enough to receive that from the teachers and even the principle, Mr Mentken. The teachers care for each and everyone one of their students success. I appreciated the amount of dedication Mrs. Wagoner has for her students. Nothing makes her happier than seeing her students move forward. Overall not many chances need to be addressed. I will say, when I was a student there, there were multiple times when the internet did not work. But this might even be unfair to add, because college internet can be a bit iffy too!
