Very discriminating against students who aren't their religion. Very little discipline in the classroom - especially in the religion classes. Kids are talking/texting during the lecture with no consequences. English teacher poor - did not prepare my son for college. Had them read lengthy novels & write reports, then did nothing with them, or even discuss the books. The pastor disapproved of my son wanting to start a bible study - said it conflicted with track practice! Pastor got angry with my sons when they disagreed with something he said during the bible lesson.
Review Northland Lutheran High School
We had 3 kids there over a period of 5 years. They were all discriminated against because we aren't WELS. They were excited to prepare chapel lessons & did all the work, because no one else in their group cared or wanted to, but yet they couldn't present it to the school. Someone else got to share the work that my kids did, with little recognition for their efforts. The soccer program was such a waste of talent. Varsity was strictly jrs & srs, regardless of talent. The basketball coach was an embarrassment - allowing his son to swear & bad-mouth him & disrespect the refs. He'd been there for years, but had one or two plays. The track coach (pastor) was 350 pounds & taught my boys nothing. Was basically there just to supervise. Actually swore at the kids once!!! He also disapproved of my son starting a bible study, because it conflicted with track practice. None of my 3 boys came away from that school with any real friends. One said that if he weren't good at sports, no one would have ever talked to him at all! He told us not to send our younger son there. I wish I could have those 5 years back to go somewhere else. I don't feel that they prepared them very well for college. The school was very clique-y, & we were the outsiders. Many of the students may have talked the talk, but didn't walk the walk - swearing, not caring anything about spiritual things, not living their lives differently.
They sure discipline us and teach us to work hard. They give us a ton of homework, but they don't give us more than we can handle. Furthermore, the teachers are always willing and love to help us when we are struggling with an assignment or even life hardships.

One unique thing about Northland is the creativity of Homecoming. All the classes compete to earn the Spirit Stick; they earn points by attempting to have the best class theme, bible verse, class t-shirts, hallway decorations, pep rally skit, dress up day costumes, and school spirit and loudness while singing the school song at the bonfire following the pep rally the night before the game and dance.

Overall, I love that this school is accepting of all people and they encourage all personalities and creativity. They include the Lutheran religion in everything and make sure to always be representing God in a positive way. We start off the day with devotion, have chapel in between second and third hour, and also we all are required to take a religion class. I think this is what gives the students such a caring and positive attitude.
