I had a great high school experience - I think what made it so great is that I was very involved in the student body activities. Playing varsity soccer also sealed the deal! I had teachers that made me think, that were engaged and that really cared about their students. Parents also played a big part - they did everything from fundraising for what we needed to bringing us "finals fuel" (food during finals to give us energy to concentrate on doing well).

There are many shortcomings within this school. The administration prioritizes student's "well being" and "mental health" over their academic performance and education. I believe that although mental health is important for students, they should not be forced to go to Wellness Day and nor should we have paid counselors who really don’t make a meaningful effect on students mental health. The only great department at Northgate is the science department, I have had a wonderful experience with every teacher there and they make Northgate feel like a welcoming place to go to school. Another problem with Northgate is its AP cap, which means that students will only be able to take 6 AP classes at their time at Northgate. My grade was the first victim of this cap, and although many students are intelligent enough to take more than 6 AP's, the administration blames the lack of funding on "student stress" and once again, mental well-being. I have much more to say but im runningout of characters
I have mixed emotions regarding my school. On one hand, the drama classes and clubs have opened my eyes to what I love to do most, entertaining an audience. Northgate has great music and arts programs that I am so proud to be apart of. They're always really good about advertising our shows and getting people involved. However, there are things I wish would've been different. Northgate has no school culture or sense of community. It's kind of a joke at my school that the students don't love Northgate, they love to hate Northgate and that's what brings us together. There is little to no diversity of thought or culture. Most students think the same and those that have different opinions are scrutinized. The majority of teachers don't enjoy their jobs and that affects the students. Recently, the district had to make some budget cuts, so they got rid of the teachers with the lowest seniority. This means that the teachers with new ideas and passion for their jobs, were let go.
