My experience at Northampton High School has been a good one for sure. We have excellent teachers, especially in the history, science, and music departments. Everyone is very welcoming and accepting. It's about everything you want in a high school and has a wide spectrum of class offerings from AP to regular. Smith College is also close by and you can take some college classes there. My only complaint would probably be the grading policy which was implemented last year (2021) called standards-based grading. It makes it pretty easy to get really good grades without trying too-too hard.
Overall, I would say I am lucky to have had the experience to study at NHS. While it was not perfect, the majority of my teachers are helpful and supportive, and bring social activism and real world application into the classroom. However, I think some aspects of the school are flawed. For example, these year we moved into a Standards Based Grading System. While the idea may have potential, the way it was executed had a negative impact on the school. It allowed students to get good grades while doing the bare minimum, including no homework because it was not graded.
I really like the extra curriculars, I played sports in the fall and the spring and in the winter I did the musical. I like all of my teachers, and there are good opportunities for students to engage in topics of interest (photography classes and introduction to engineering). Though some classes move at a slow pace and there isn't opportunity for extra credit or more challenging work. The bathrooms were locked most of the year and our administration is falling apart.
