The ability to voice your opinion without shaming from other classmates. While the physical school building is old, the teachers are up-to-date and really care about enabling students to succeed.
North Smithfield High School academically is a great school. The teachers constantly push the students to ensure that they are prepared for the future ahead of them no matter the direction they are heading. However, a lack of diversity between students and staff is very apparent. This sometimes can create a toxic learning environment for diverse students. Also they are limited options as far as classes to take, but the classes available are pretty good. Overall North Smithfield prepares students for college pretty well.
Bullying issue and secretaries are rude. My child has been bullied for years and they took at as a joke. Not to mention every time I called the school the lady on the phone was extremely rude and seemed bothered all the time. I know other parents and students have agreed
I believe that NS provides an excellent educational experience and would rate it as high or higher than any private school . My one recommendation would be to return to a rotating/waterfall schedule.
It's a good school I just didn't have a good experience. It's advertised to be a lot better than it actually is. In the advertising brochure it looks diverse, well-equipped, full of spirit and lots of cool things to be involved with - but I found it to be somewhat exaggerated. There's definitely a nicotine problem but let's be honest that's an issue anywhere. There's little to no school spirit, the "improvements" they've made don't really do anything aesthetically or otherwise, very little diversity, the Chromebooks never work, and most students aren't all that friendly. Teachers are mostly good, a lot of upper level classes give a near impossible amount of work. A lot of students are really stressed and overworked. The music program is huge there, so is tech ed. If you join clubs (I loved DECA and student council especially), play sports, and know your limits you'll be fine, just make sure you're looking out for your own mental health and know when to give yourself a break.
I really like the school. Even though it has some bad sides to it, like every school out there, its a welcoming school with lots of school spirit and the most amazing students and staff.
I really like the depth and variety of Honors and AP classes that are offered. The chorus and band programs are OUTSTANDING and great to be a part of. The We the People class offered to Freshmen is a phenomenal experience and greatly impacts your future success. I wish there were more opportunities to obtain EEP credits at the high school.
I have loved how much North Smithfield High School has grown in the past 4 years. We have strengthened as a community and I cannot wait to see what is in store for the future.
I like how everyone is willing to help you. Most of the teachers are always willing to stay after and help you with anything you need.
The school itself is nice, but the kids they are either mean kids or just plain rude then the teachers think they are above the student an does nothing to make a connection with the student unless you are a teacher's pet. Kids only pass because they have friends that they can cheat off of.
North Smithfield has a music program that could compete anywhere in the country. There are clubs and activities to appeal to almost any high school student. The school is building new science labs so STEM will improve in he coming years. The school is becoming more diverse but it needs to continue to work in this area.
I liked N Smithfield High School because of the sense of community amongst all the students. I think there should be more student teacher interaction and working sinks.
Some teachers made it their goal to ensure you succeeded and gave the best pep talks. There was alot of time to grow as a person because you were in charge of yourself individually. The food in the cafeteria is not as bad as it looks and it seems to get better every month.
North Smithfield High School stands out amongst other schools for its commitment to academics and inclusive environment. It offers AP courses with fully competent and enthusiastic teachers, and an amazing music program. However the school should dedicate more time to helping students prepare for real life situations, as well as offering career based information students know where they want to be. It is dedicated to Unified Sports and has been recognized by the state. It offers a safe environment, this year adding a SRO from the NSPD to be present at all times. The teaching staff enjoys their work and it is clear how well they get along. However, the facilities of the school such as available bathrooms and heating systems are lacking. Overall, it is a great high school that is continuing to advance.
Great learn environment. Caring heavily on music and the arts. Great staff. overall great school. The schools look a little outdated from the outside. The entire inside has the newest education technology including the Chromebook one to one program. The school also includes a CTE program which is great for developing skills for a future job.
North Smithfield High School is mostly a clean and safe environment to learn in. Overall the teachers are friendly and help every student reach their potential. The teachers are more than willing to provide extra help to a student almost everyday after school, before the first bell, or in advisory. The student body is very small, it consists of almost 500 students. The students are typically very nice and always have smiles on their faces. The sports teams are around average, but the school does provide a lot of materials for the athletes to be successful. After reviewing different aspects of North Smithfield High School, I highly recommend attending this school for a positive learning experience.
Graduating with the same friends I graduated pre school with is rare. NSHS has an amazing school culture, which is uncommon in many places around. While the school itself is old, the atmosphere and overall community involvement make up for it. In NS it is uncommon for a student not to go to college afterward, however, while it is enforced repeatedly that the students continue their education, there is not a great amount of preparation materials available. Overall, my experience in this school system is great, and has put me on a successful path.
