This school has turned the corner in the last year and is really starting run smoothly! Administration team is in their second year together and works hard with staff to continue to improve instruction, parent participation and student relationships. Students and staff are buying in to the change to a culture of mutual respect, high work ethic, high character and learning to be a voice in the local community. The band program, although hindered by overall funding, is still the best in NE Indiana...very high quality musicians that include two time defending state Champion Wildsiders jazz band. Athletic teams have not been good for a few years but are improving with new coaches and still getting students scholarships for the next level.
It’s not utopia but the beautiful old building houses a great culture for kids to learn and grow in and is well supported by the largest HS alumni association in the US.

Well, my first year here at North Side was actually my last year of High School. Class of 2019 was a very big and diverse group here at North Side. I had taken a math class for first and my teacher Mr. Richards was AMAZING! Based off my sat math I get to skip to the last math class required for my major next year. Now the culture is rich at North Side. I felt more integrated at North Side compared to my last High School. All of the teachers I had while at North Side were genuinely interested in YOUR success as a student and beyond. I'm very appreciative of all of my teachers. The overall atmosphere at North Side really makes you want to be involved. It felt different from my past high school. There was a genuine feel of school spirit. Right now I want to move on and go to college but I could bet within a few years I will look back and miss these experiences I had at North Side.
North Side High School was a definable mess. I wish I could've gone somewhere else, but that's where I graduated. The teachers were great! What I got from them was great. The administration, however, was immensely combative and often made education hard to achieve with misaligned goals and poor planning. The diversity of NSHS was great in the student base, but the faculty tended to be cut from the same white, suburban cookie sheet--and treated the students with varying levels of respect.
NSHS did not prepare me for college, nor did it prepare me for life after high school. Planning for college was something I had to pry from my advisors and work on my own time with--while many of my fellow students at SLC have talked about how their advisors helped them plan 24/7. I got what I needed, just barely, from NSHS.
