As a senior in North High, I have enjoyed my years here at this school. Not only does the school focus on academics but they also focus on safety and try to make learning fun. I am currently taking 5 AP classes and all of my teacher are very helpful and wonderful. I am also involved with Baile Folklorico here at North High. Baile Folklorico has greatly impacted my life because it has made me gain confidence and make new friends. Through baile I learned many things about myself. Not only did it help me with some personal growth but it also made me want to come to school everyday because it is truly a very fun class to be in! I am also involved with the Baile Folklorico Club since I am Vice-President of the club.

North Salinas High School has surely been a roller coaster. As I reflect on my experiences, I have come to the realization of the great potential the school has and its setbacks. First and foremost, NSHS students are some of the most hardworking students I have encountered and many students have overcome great adversity. I truly see potential here and a future breeding ground for 4 year universities like Salinas High/Alvarez high school are.
On the other hand, there are many issues plaguing the school. From dilapidated facilitates (note the school has recently began a process to create new buildings), to extreme lack of college preparation, cut back of STEM courses, and lack of support for higher education from counselors.
In the future, I hope to see some additions to the academic resources on campus that provide further assistance in the pursuit of high education. I believe we need opportunities, like more workshops, to learn about application factors that are uncommon in low income communities, like the Common Application, the CSS Profile, merit-based scholarships, and so on. North Salinas high school is extremely focused on uplifting students who need help regarding the basics of school, like completing homework and maintaining attendance, yet the students who are invested in crafting a quality application for high-ranked universities are left behind. Therefore, I hope to see more attention shifted onto the students who want more from their academic career. Even if it seems like we do not need help, the amount of opportunities we are already missing out on is very high due to our lack of academic resources.
