I had a great experience at North Newton high school! The teachers and coaches were fantastic! I had many memories made between band, track, cross country, swim, drama, and game club. My classmates and teammates help each other thrive at both academics and during sporting competitions. My music director inspired me to pursue a career as a music director/teacher myself. He helped me in so many ways and was always there for me during my years at North Newton. One change I would make is to include a class pertaining to taxes, as far as how to do them yourself. As an adult I think this would be a lifelong benefit for anyone.
North Newton High School often gets a bad reputation from alumni, to current students, to surrounding school districts. But as someone who graduated from this school, I can think of many great experiences I had here that is sure to be a plus in many others' books. Its small and reflects on the surrounding community. Students have time to really get to know each other with graduating classes being as small as 120. Individual class sizes are also small as well, never exceeding 25 students, giving teachers ample time to focus on their needs individually. Sports and clubs aren't very diverse, but there's plenty to keep students involved. Such as football, cheerleading, basketball, swim, band, academic teams, FCCLA, and more.
As a school literally in the middle of a cornfield, it is about as okay as it could be. Lots of awful, to mediocre teachers, but we also have some truly amazing ones. After hating every English teacher I had ever had despite English being my best subject, being taught by Ms. McDivitt was truly an incredible experience. She is a somewhat scary woman with strong opinions on animal cruelty, and often I would stay after class to talk to her about zoology. Mr. Schueter is the absolute best math teacher I have ever had the joy to be taught by. After so many years of struggling, I finally have a grasp on mathematics. Mr.Redlin is the quirky music director, and he helped me find my voice. Being in the band room with him directing is always enetertaining. Our last principal Mr. Hostestler was absolutely incredible. He was funny, and you felt like you could talk to him. Unfortunately, the school board is corrupt and fired him for reasons you would expect on an episode of Real Housewives.
