North Iredell High School is a small school located in Olin, North Carolina. North is home to some really amazing teachers; some of which I still speak to on a regular basis! There is a place for almost everyone at North. The performing arts department is wonderful with teachers that all work well together to provide students with a great experience. North was once home of the largest high school Future Farmers of America Organization (FFA) in the state. For students who are more academically gifted North Iredell has the option of being a part of the Advanced Placement (AP) Academy. The AP Academy gives students the opportunity to take AP classes and receive both high school and college credit at the same time. During my time at North the volleyball team won the state championship while the football team had its third consecutive year of losing every game. High school is a time of growth and learning and I am proud to be an alumni of North Iredell and a Rowdy Raider for life.

North Iredell High School has its ups and downs. With new Fine Arts and Early College facilities, the school has a bit of a nicer look to it. There are some excellent teachers at North, no doubt, and the Agriculture program that it offered through the school is one to boast of. On the other hand, the town of Olin is in an ultra-conservative area and the student body is riddled with blatant discrimination. Additionally, the school only produces a small number of competitive college-applicants per year, making its college-readiness factor a little low. It looks like there are plans in place to improve college-readiness for future students, though, with a highly-involved College Advisor and a University Preparedness Program in the making. Overall, I've enjoyed my time at North, but there were definitely some prominent, unenjoyable circumstances.
Overall, I had a wonderful high school experience. The teachers overall were very helpful and understanding. The classes were interesting for the most part and I learned a lot in my tenure at North Iredell. I felt safe at school and I actually wanted to be there. If there was one thing I could change I believe it would be the lack of personal relationships. There are many “groups” at North and if you are not in one of them, it is easy to feel left out of the loop. But besides that, I have many good things to say about North Iredell High School.
