Great programs for music and arts with opportunities to be challenged and excel at the state and national level. Many teachers are compassionate and dedicated to seeing their students succeed. A wide range of extracurriculars are offered, and students are encouraged to create their own clubs. Poor resources for BIPOC and LGBTQ identifying students. The safety and health of marginalized communities are not prioritized. Racism, sexual assault, and violence are often poorly handled by the administration or ignored completely.
I love Norman High because of the diversity it holds just walking through the hallways. Everyone has the spirit that is so motivating and makes you so proud to be there and carry on the tiger name. The base of tradition carries on in the school and you're able to see it the second you walk through the doors. Although NHS is just a school, there are endless possibilities to get engaged in our community through the school. There are also endless smaller communities within Norman High that get you to meet some lifelong friends and build strong relationships throughout your 4 years in high school. The relationships are so strong, it's what hurts the most when you leave.
Norman High has a varied range of courses that allow for accelerated learning, including an outstanding physics and Spanish program, and with multiple avenues for student exploration such as leadership, technology, and art clubs. The student body is enthusiastic, engaged and defined, and the staff is by and large very willing to assist their students. The campus itself is expansive, and the library has an impressive stock, as well as a digital fabrication center. Above all the most skilled scholastic cook in perhaps all of Oklahoma is stationed here, sitting at the very peak of culinary innovation and courtesy.
