I really enjoyed my four years spent in high school at Norfolk Catholic. I have had the privilege of being at Norfolk Catholic since kindergarten. This is special because I have gone to school my whole life in a place where I feel safe and welcomed. However, I have had a rough time with some teachers and administration, but everybody does. I sometimes feel like they do not listen to their students. I still rate NC very well because they have prepared me well for college. There are certainly some bad apples in the staff but I'm sure the problems will be resolved.
Norfolk Catholic school, for a small school, gives its students opportunities to stand out. That is probably its top quality. If you are a newcomer, do not expect to be taken into the fold-parents, students, or otherwise. Norfolk Catholic, during my time there, did not have any AP courses. There was also almost no diversity, however the town also had little diversity, so that cannot be helped much. The extra-curricular activities were above average. There were also many leadership positions available through these activities.
The most important thing I've learned in high school is that I have to be true to myself. In an environment like high school where identity is everything, it can be so incredibly easy to betray your ideals to move up in the caste system. But falling victim to that temptation is more damaging than it may seem and can threaten to destroy your true self. Compromising your morals for no other reason than to fit in is not good enough. Leaders aren't made by fitting in with the wrong crowd just because it's big. Leaders do what's right.
