Extremely competitive environment. Takes a special type of ambitious, intrinsically driven, child to thrive here. Teaches kids skill such as confidence in ones ability to perform as well as how to talk to adults in a professional manner, these are skills that just can't be learned in public school. There is a lot of extreme social, academic, and athletic pressure to perform well here. There is little to no space for type B personalities and you will find a lot of extremely driven "Work hard play hard" type students here! its always "go go go go time" at NA

Norfolk Academy is a singular educational experience. All three of my children have attended NA, and I am a graduate. The faculty is committed to the success of every child. The academics are rigorous. The extra-curricular offerings are competitive with any private school in the country-- notably the international programs and the Fellows programs. The theatre program is great and there are myriad sports opportunities.
I have been at Norfolk Academy for 7 years and I have to say that it has never failed to disappoint. The academics are top notch and it is not easy to get straight A's. NA will prepare you very well for college and you will be able to get into some of the best universities in the country. The teachers are very passionate and will go the extra mile to help anyone in need. However, you usually have to seek them out first unless you are actually performing poorly. The honor system is an integral part of the school as you can leave your bags anywhere and they won't get stolen. The athletics are also very good. Our field hockey team was #3 in the nation last season and we have a state contending boys lacrosse team, girls and boys tennis, boys basketball, swimming, and track and field. Finally, the food is considered good by normal standards but a picky eater like myself finds it lacking at times.
