I think Nodaway Valley is a great school. Teachers genuinely care about the students and want the best for them. Something I would change about Nodaway Valley is the grading system. We use standards-based grading with a 4.0 scale, and since that is not how grading works in college, I think it sets students up for failure.
Nodaway Valley High School's population is the equivalent of a grade size in the high school I had originally planned on going to. While the size change is kind of a culture shock I have developed close relationships with the teachers that I might not have otherwise been able to make. The small number of students allows me to participate in a variety of activities both academic and athletic. I have had the opportunity to play on varsity teams and lead programs that in a larger school would have been almost impossible to participate in concurrently. Nodaway Valley High School is not very involved, however, and I think it is because the students have lost pride in their school. The immediate education is effective but is not always the most challenging. Nodaway Valley does provide opportunities for challenging coursework by encouraging dual enrollment and online high school courses that our school is too small to offer itself.
Not many clubs or organizations for students that wanna do other topics besides sports, little to nothing for clubs on education. Even during our study hall time, we cannot get into a group to do college math homework which makes it difficult for us especially when the teacher is always buys, school doesnt seem to care much about grades.
