Newport Senior High School Reviews
Rating 3.81 out of 5 360 reviews
In terms of academics, Newport is one of the best schools in Washington. There are a wide variety of AP classes and many opportunities to get involved in clubs, sports, and activities.
Students are pressured to take several AP classes per year while having multiple extracurricular activities and leadership positions. There is a lot of pressure to excel in both academics and extracurriculars, and students only talk about grades or college. It often feels like being an overachiever is the ONLY thing that matters, and there is a culture of stress/competition. Volunteer opportunities are offered, but clubs and sports are mediocre. Some teachers are amazing, while others are absolutely horrible at teaching. I would recommend getting a tutor for any classes you are struggling with.
Overall, Newport has taken a toll on my mental health, and I would only come to this school for the academics.

Teachers and Staff are extremely supportive. The competitive culture of the school doesn't feel overwhelming, instead, it drives students towards success!
Newport Senior High School has a wide selection of classes to take as well as teachers who dedicate their time to helping their students learn and understand as much as possible. The band program is extremely involved in many sports and assemblies making football games more interesting to watch. However the culture at Newport is extremely competitive as well as the constant pressure to for each student to be the best out of their classmates. Mental health and stability is not addressed as much as it should be in this stressful school envrionment as it should be, but there are presently working to improve this topic with the introduction of mental health counselors this year.
