My child loved the school during our years in Sarasota. We hated to move. The school is charming in a way that is seldom found today. Kindness, joyful learning, wonderful teachers, students, and administrative team. I only wish that I could have gone to school there.

I notice that someone wrote suggesting that students don’t get enough structure and push. That’s a legitimate point of you I suppose, but for my own observation and experience, what schools like Newgate give children is exactly what they need and colleges and in their career. I always found that the children who did not do well seem to be students who really need structure. That doesn’t work well when they go off to college and need the self motivation and independence that universities expect. Most of the children we came to know our happy, incredibly well educated, and enthusiastic about going to school every day. I don’t know what else we would ever want for our child. It worked for us.

My brothers and I have gone to NewGate for our entire life. Oldest is graduated with an IB diploma + a full-ride scholarship to his college of choice.
There's no bullying at all (but the social aspect is lacking). Students maintain good rapport with their peers as well as teachers.
Student presentations, Shakespeare performances, and Internship Week all make you step out of your comfort zone to develop your strengths and weaknesses.
No sports teams and not many clubs, so there isn't any "school spirit".
AMAZING education. Younger students work hands-on with materials. High school is more of a regular classroom setting.
You are given A TON of freedom at NewGate, and not much homework.
NewGate offers IB, which looks amazing on your resume.
Tests are not too often; teachers are more focused on making sure you are learning and understanding the curriculum than just teaching you to pass a test.
I definitely wouldn't be who I am today if I didn't go to NewGate.
The philosophy behind NewGate is good, but when it comes down to actually acting on it, NewGate fails to achieve. As a school for eighth grade and below, NewGate works well as a small school, giving individualized attention to the students. However, combined with an influx of new students, the high school teachers are overwhelmed and not functioning well together as a whole. The teaching style is basically handing out assignments and the students are expected to look up information on the internet. This is claimed as independent learning, but, to this degree, isn't fostering actual learning, rather than spitting information out that was found on the internet. The supervisors and leaders of the school are not aware of the dynamics throughout the entire school and how it is functioning overall. For an academically challenging, but individualized high school experience, I recommend you look elsewhere.
