As a first semester freshman in college, I am so grateful for my experience at Newark Academy. When interacting with the world around me, I feel confident, intelligent, and open-minded. NA helped me to view the world through a compassionate, mature lens, something that many students do not achieve in high school. I was pushed to be the best I can be while also appreciating the simple daily joys in life. The teachers and the community are unconditionally supportive. I owe so much to the NA community and I plan to continue to stay involved throughout my lifetime.
Review Your School
NA is an incredible school. The arts program is given a lot of love. Sports aren't as great as other schools but you can still find something you enjoy. The students, generally, are incredibly smart. Math courses can get very advanced and the humanities program is quite rigorous. There are a lot of clubs to take part in after school and the administration leads pretty passionate community service councils and equity teams.
The teachers here are amazing. All/most of them create their own lesson plans, unless it follows an IB/AP curriculum. Worksheets are looked down upon, because teachers are expected to be creative and engaging in their teaching. However, all students know there are a few teachers who grade much harder than the rest, even when multiple teachers teach the same course. This means you will have to either work extra hard, or get lucky with your teacher placement to get an A or A- in some classes.
