There is always room for improvement. But these teachers are overly dedicated and committed to the development of the students. There are different teaching styles but these teachers are trained specifically to support and develop students for independent living. The majority of these teachers are in this field as a result of the passion and love for the students. Lack of funding may play an important role in lesser techniques or knowledge. A well rounded teacher at this school is able to tell a parent practically every thing that the parent already knows about their child. (Funny). With consistency we watch our kids develop confidence and aspire. Teachers relate very well with parents as they are aware that many parents are overly concerned about the development of their special needs child. Their give suggestions and take suggestions from parents. (thankfully). With a few mishaps I think that the consistency in grading is outstanding. But it is the duty of the parent to liaise with their child and go through the school work to see what can be improved, being aware that each child has an IEP.
There are not many extracurricular activities for a few reasons. The main reason because of lack of government funding. because too many of the students have special needs more emphasis is placed on developing their academic and physical needs, although there are some activities students get to part take in. However, the activities that most of the students are interested in are very limited. for example art, singing, composing music, writing, drama and theatre, debate club, to name a few. Some students get a little more exposure because they get to dorm throughout the week. Many staff devote their exceptional time and attention to help students bring out their best. But more emphasis should be placed on the individual needs of children since the classes are very small contained.4 to 6 students to 1 teacher and an assistant
Because of the type of the school it is the best supported and kept. The level of performance of Special Needs Students is outstanding and I think this has to do with the love that the teachers and staff put into the students. I appreciate that much emphasis is placed on graduating and going to college. In as much as this is an excellent school, I believe that some students are less challenged and this shares concern. However, I would choose this school every single time if the opportunities that are available at another high school could not supersede the expectations of my child's need.
